Ohio is locked in a sharp cold snap now, with temperatures struggling to climb out of the 30s and a biting chill settling in across Cleveland and the Lake Erie shoreline. The air feels raw, and any leftover moisture could turn slick as temperatures fall again.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, highs only reach the mid to upper 30s today, with clearing skies developing through the afternoon as high pressure builds in. Temperatures drop quickly by early Wednesday, bottoming out in the mid-20s across much of northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania.
Across Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown, roads remain mostly dry this afternoon, but conditions change after sunset. Bridges along I-90, I-77, and Route 2 could see isolated slick spots where moisture refreezes. This is prime “flash freeze” territory, especially in shaded areas and near the lakeshore.
Lake effect clouds linger early, particularly east of Cleveland into Ashtabula County and toward Erie, Pennsylvania, before skies clear later in the day. The cold air will feel even sharper with light winds, making early morning travel uncomfortable.
A gradual rebound begins Wednesday with sunshine and temperatures recovering into the 40s, then climbing further by Thursday as a warmer pattern takes hold. By the weekend, highs push toward the 50s and beyond, signaling a return to more typical spring conditions.
Bundle up tonight and watch for icy patches early. The cold is brief, but impactful. Are you noticing icy spots on your roads yet?
