Florida’s Atlantic coast is turning rough fast, with powerful waves crashing ashore and winds strengthening through the afternoon, creating dangerous conditions for anyone near the water. The surf is building quickly, and conditions can knock you off your feet within seconds.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a High Surf Advisory is in effect for all east central Florida beaches, with waves building to 9 to 12 feet today into tonight. At the same time, a Wind Advisory covers much of the region, with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and peak gusts between 35 and 45 mph, especially along the coast.

From Daytona Beach through Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, and Vero Beach, conditions are becoming increasingly hazardous. High tide around midday will worsen beach erosion and push water farther up the coast. Rip currents are life-threatening, and entering the ocean is strongly discouraged.

Driving may also become difficult, particularly along I-95 and coastal routes where strong crosswinds impact high-profile vehicles. Secure loose outdoor items like patio furniture and trash bins before winds peak.

Rain chances increase into midweek, especially along the coast, adding another layer of concern for localized flooding. Boating conditions are dangerous, with gale-force winds expected offshore.

These conditions persist through Thursday, with rough surf and strong winds continuing to impact daily life. Stay off the beaches and remain alert for updates as conditions evolve. Are the waves already picking up where you are?
