Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio is bracing for a prolonged lake effect snow event, with accumulations of up to 18 inches expected by Tuesday morning. Residents and commuters along I-90 should prepare for hazardous travel conditions, especially in Cuyahoga and Geauga counties, where the heaviest snowfall is anticipated.

According to the National Weather Service, snow bands will intensify throughout Monday, potentially dropping 1 to 2 inches per hour. Visibility may fall below a quarter mile, creating whiteout conditions. Travel during the morning and evening commutes could become treacherous. The Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday, with the most significant impacts forecasted for Monday evening.

The highest snowfall totals will likely center around northeastern Cuyahoga County and northern Geauga County, with snowfall tapering to 1 to 3 inches further south. Residents are urged to carry emergency kits, including flashlights, water, and blankets, if traveling is unavoidable. The Ohio Department of Transportation advises against unnecessary travel during peak snow periods.

The extended forecast calls for snow showers to persist into Wednesday, transitioning to rain by the afternoon. Temperatures will remain near freezing, with breezy conditions adding to potential wind chills. Thursday and Friday are expected to bring occasional flurries before temperatures stabilize near the low 30s.
