Cincinnati, OH – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for portions of central and south-central Ohio, as well as Lewis County, Kentucky, until 10 p.m. Wednesday due to high fire danger conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, gusty winds of up to 30 mph, combined with low humidity levels dropping as low as 15%, have created a heightened risk for rapidly spreading fires. The affected areas include Licking, Pickaway, Fairfield, Ross, Hocking, Adams, Pike, and Scioto counties in Ohio, along with Lewis County in Kentucky.
The weather service warns that any fires that develop could spread quickly under these conditions. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Later this evening, thunderstorms are expected to move into the region, which could help alleviate some of the fire risk but may also bring unpredictable wind patterns.
Residents are urged to exercise caution with any activities that could ignite fires, such as using grills, discarding cigarettes, or operating machinery that generates sparks. Authorities recommend staying updated with local emergency services for further advisories.
The Red Flag Warning is expected to expire at 10 p.m. Wednesday, but officials advise continued vigilance as dry conditions persist in some areas.
