Indianapolis, IN – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for central and eastern Indiana until 1 a.m. EDT Thursday, with multiple counties under alert for potentially damaging storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, 24 counties are included in the watch area, including Marion, Hamilton, Madison, Monroe, and Boone counties. Residents in cities such as Indianapolis, Bloomington, Muncie, and Shelbyville should prepare for possible strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall as storms move through the region.

The Storm Prediction Center issued the alert as a line of storms develops, bringing the threat of wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and isolated hail up to one inch in diameter. The system is expected to intensify through the evening, with the heaviest impact occurring late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Officials advise residents to stay indoors during severe storms and monitor local forecasts for real-time updates. Motorists should exercise caution, as heavy rain and strong winds could lead to hazardous travel conditions.

This severe thunderstorm watch follows a pattern of volatile spring weather in the region. The public is urged to stay alert for additional warnings or advisories as conditions evolve overnight.
