Delphos, OH – A fire broke out early Monday morning at Delphos St. John the Evangelist, an Ohio Catholic school, prompting its closure for the day. Firefighters arrived around 2 a.m. after a fire alarm alerted them to the incident.
According to school officials, the fire started in the maintenance area of the building. There were no injuries reported, and the school was unoccupied at the time. Father Jeffrey Walker, the school’s pastor, thanked the Delphos and American Township Fire Departments for their swift response.
“Damage appears to be confined to the maintenance area and once we can assure the safety of our buildings and air quality, we will welcome students and staff back into the school,” Father Walker stated.
The school will remain closed on Monday as authorities assess the situation. Updates will be communicated to families as more details become available. The school is monitoring air quality and safety conditions before deciding when to reopen.
