Cleveland, OH – A strong weather system moving through the Great Lakes is set to bring severe thunderstorms, gusty winds, and snowfall to northern Ohio and western Pennsylvania through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland, scattered strong storms are expected this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk stretching from eastern Ohio into western Pennsylvania. Some storms could turn severe, bringing damaging winds over 40 mph, heavy rain, and isolated tornadoes. The storm threat will last from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday before transitioning to wintry weather overnight.
NWS Pittsburgh also warns of a slight risk of severe storms today, especially in areas along a cold front moving eastward. Large hail and damaging winds are possible, with greater chances farther east into Pennsylvania.
By late Wednesday night, rain is expected to change to snow, particularly in northeast Ohio’s snowbelt and the higher elevations of western Pennsylvania. Some areas could receive 2 to 3 inches of snowthrough Thursday morning, with minor travel impacts.
