Dayton, Ohio – Unhealthy ozone levels are threatening air quality across the Miami Valley Tuesday, prompting a regional alert through midnight for residents in seven counties, including Dayton, Springfield, and Troy.
According to the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency, an Air Quality Alert remains in effect until 12 a.m. Wednesday for Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Shelby counties. Ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to reach levels considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Cities including Beavercreek, Fairborn, Xenia, and Sidney are urged to take action. Residents should limit outdoor activity, especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Officials recommend carpooling, delaying refueling until after 8 p.m., and avoiding gas-powered yard work until evening to help reduce emissions.
This is the region’s first significant ozone alert of June, and conditions may persist into Wednesday if weather patterns stagnate.
Air quality will be reassessed overnight, with updates posted to miamivalleyair.org.
