Commerce Township, MI – A serious injury crash disrupted traffic in Commerce Township late Friday morning after two vehicles collided head-on along a busy stretch of West Pontiac Trail.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 11:13 a.m. Friday to a reported injury crash on West Pontiac Trail near Huntley Drive in Commerce Township, located in Oakland County, northwest of Detroit.
Preliminary findings indicate a 2022 Tesla, traveling eastbound and driven by a 24-year-old Dearborn resident, crossed the center yellow line and struck a westbound 2010 Honda Odyssey driven by a 73-year-old resident of Walled Lake, authorities said.
The Commerce Township Fire Department, assisted by Medstar Ambulance Service, responded to the scene and provided immediate medical care. Both drivers were transported to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi for treatment.
Officials confirmed the Honda Odyssey driver remains in critical condition, while the Tesla driver is listed in stable condition.
Investigators stated that alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash at this time.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Additionally, the department’s Drone Unit assisted by mapping the crash scene to support the investigation.
Drivers traveling through the area may have experienced delays as emergency crews worked the scene. Authorities have not released further details, and the incident remains under investigation.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
