Harrisburg, PA – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Frost Advisory for much of south-central Pennsylvania, warning that overnight lows in the 30s could lead to widespread frost formation early Friday morning.

The advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Friday for Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York Counties, including the cities of Harrisburg, Lancaster, Gettysburg, York, Carlisle, and Chambersburg.

According to the NWS, valley locations and rural areas will see the coldest temperatures, allowing frost to form on exposed surfaces. “Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered,” the agency cautioned.

Residents are advised to bring potted plants indoors, cover garden vegetation, and protect outdoor crops before temperatures fall overnight. Clear skies and calm winds are expected to enhance frost formation across much of the region.

Warmer daytime highs are expected by late Friday, but forecasters say additional frosty mornings could return over the weekend as autumn conditions continue to settle into the Mid-Atlantic.
