Lockport, IL – A tornado touched down in Lockport, IL, on July 15, causing significant concern among residents. Another tornado, stretching from Channahon to Frankfort, was also confirmed. Both incidents were part of a severe weather system that impacted the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago, the Lockport tornado was classified as an EF-0, with peak winds reaching 75 mph. This tornado carved a path 6.3 miles long, starting west of Weber Road and crossing through Prairie Bluff Preserve. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.

The second tornado, an EF-1, originated west of I-55 and traveled east towards Frankfort, reaching peak winds of 105 mph. This tornado covered a distance of 25 miles and had a maximum width of 200 yards. The NWS noted that the path of this tornado was preliminary, with further surveying planned for Wednesday to determine if the track extends further west.

Local emergency management agencies were on high alert, coordinating with the NWS to survey the damage and ensure public safety. Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for potential future severe weather events.
