Lake Charles, LA – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles says a cold front moving through late Monday evening into Tuesday morning could bring a round of strong to severe thunderstorms to southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas.
The main threats include damaging wind gusts (over 60 mph), large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The highest risk for severe weather stretches from Beaumont and Port Arthur eastward through Lake Charles and Alexandria, where conditions will be most favorable for rotating storms.
Most of the activity will occur overnight Monday into early Tuesday, so forecasters stress the importance of having multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather radios and mobile alerts, especially while sleeping.
Rainfall will be beneficial for drought-stricken areas, but the storms could still cause localized power outages or minor damage due to high winds.
