Portland, OR – A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Oregon and Washington Cascades, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to impact travel through early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland, the advisory begins at midnight for the South Washington Cascades and at 4 a.m. Wednesday for the North and Central Oregon Cascades. Snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is forecast above 3,500 feet in Washington and 4,000 feet in Oregon, with peak accumulation expected between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, further reducing visibility.

Road conditions in mountain passes, including Government Camp, Santiam Pass, and Willamette Pass, are expected to deteriorate quickly. The NWS warns that bridges and overpasses will become especially slick and hazardous.

Travelers should carry a winter emergency kit, including blankets, food, water, a flashlight, and tire chains. Oregon drivers can check real-time road conditions at TripCheck.com, while Washington motorists can visit WSDOT.com.

The advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. PST Thursday. Motorists are urged to plan ahead and drive cautiously.
