Kansas City, Mo. — Patchy fog could slow drivers early Saturday across the Kansas City metro before skies clear and cooler-than-normal conditions hold through the day. Highs will only reach the mid-70s, making for one of the coolest starts to September in recent years.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, well-below seasonal temperatures continue into Saturday morning with lows dipping into the upper 40s. The agency noted record low readings are possible in several Missouri towns, particularly north of I-70.

By Sunday, sunshine dominates with highs climbing into the upper 70s. The warming trend continues Monday and Tuesday as Kansas City pushes back into the mid- to upper 80s. A weak storm system brings a 30% chance of showers late Monday night, but dry weather quickly returns.

Travelers on I-70 and I-35 should be prepared for reduced visibility during early morning fog. Residents are also advised to take advantage of the cool weekend temperatures before summer-like heat returns by midweek.

The National Weather Service says no widespread hazards are expected beyond isolated thunderstorms, but updates will be issued if storm chances increase.
