Marquette, MI – Residents in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula should prepare for heavy snow and hazardous conditions through Wednesday night, as a winter storm warning remains in effect. Snow totals of up to 12 inches are expected, with higher amounts possible in localized areas. Gusty northwest winds up to 35 mph may create blowing snow, reducing visibility and complicating travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, the heaviest snow bands will develop near Lake Superior, with dangerous driving conditions likely in Alger and Marquette counties. Drivers on M-28 and US-41 should use caution and monitor conditions before traveling.

The storm will intensify Wednesday morning, continuing into the evening. New snowfall rates of 3 to 6 inches are likely between Grand Marais and Munising by afternoon, with additional accumulations near Trenary. Gusting winds may further impact visibility, making Wednesday commutes treacherous.

By Thursday, snow showers are expected to diminish, but cold conditions will persist. Highs will struggle to reach 14°F, with overnight lows dipping below zero.

This week, residents should ensure emergency kits are ready and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall. Stay updated with local forecasts and check road conditions frequently.
