Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service has extended a winter weather advisory for Chicagoland and parts of northwest Indiana until 9 AM Tuesday.

According to the latest updates, a hazardous mix of wintry precipitation will continue, with the most significant icing occurring overnight into Tuesday morning. Commuters are warned of slick, untreated roads, especially during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning rush hours. Officials caution that ice accumulation could reach up to 0.40 inches, potentially leading to tree damage and power outages.

The advisory stresses the importance of temperatures, which are forecasted to teeter around the freezing mark; even a slight increase could drastically reduce ice buildup. Residents should monitor conditions, prepare for possible power disruptions, and heed travel advice from local road safety agencies.
