Chicago, IL – Snow and ice will create hazardous travel conditions across Illinois and northwest Indiana beginning Wednesday morning, with impacts expected into early Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 9 a.m. CST Wednesday to 3 a.m. CST Thursday. Snow accumulation will range from 2 to 6 inches, with areas in north-central Illinois likely seeing the highest totals.
The advisory covers Chicago, Rockford, Joliet, Kankakee, and parts of northwest Indiana, including Gary and Valparaiso. Snow may be heavy at times before transitioning to freezing drizzle or light freezing rain Wednesday evening, with up to one-tenth of an inch of ice possible.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate, especially during the Wednesday evening commute, as roads become slick. Officials urge drivers to reduce speed and allow extra travel time.
