Illinois – Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana drivers are being urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions tonight as wind-whipped snow showers and plummeting temperatures create dangerous travel conditions. A Wind Advisory is in effect until midnight, with gusts exceeding 50 mph expected.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, bursts of snow will occur from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., reducing visibility to less than a mile at times. Snow-coated roads combined with freezing temperatures are likely to create icy patches, making travel extremely risky, particularly along major roadways such as I-80, I-55, and I-90.

Motorists are advised to slow down and increase following distances. Those planning to drive should also check their vehicle’s winter readiness and allow extra travel time to accommodate delays.

For residents in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, this week serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by winter weather. Stay updated on conditions and heed weather advisories to remain safe.
