Des Moines, IA – Bitterly cold conditions are expected Thursday morning across Iowa, with wind chills plunging as low as 15 degrees below zero in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines, temperatures will fall into the single digits above zero overnight Wednesday. When combined with strong winds, the “feels like” temperatures will range from 5 below zero in southern Iowa to 15 below zero in the north. These conditions mark the coldest wind chills of the season so far.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and take precautions to avoid frostbite.
