Duluth, MN – Icy roads and light snow are already creating hazardous travel across northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin early Tuesday, with conditions expected to shift through the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of the Northland. Mixed precipitation, including light freezing rain and snow, will continue through 1 p.m. Tuesday for areas like Duluth, Brainerd, and Superior, with ice accumulations reaching up to 0.10 inches.

That thin glaze is enough to create slick roads, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces. Travel impacts are likely along key routes near Duluth, Hinckley, and Ashland during the morning commute.

Farther north, including International Falls, Ely, and Grand Marais, lighter snow will persist through the day, with totals up to 1 to 2 inches and impacts lasting until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Roads in these areas may remain snow-covered and slippery into the evening commute.

Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance, and check 511 systems in Minnesota and Wisconsin before traveling.

Conditions will gradually improve later Tuesday evening, but patchy ice and snow may linger overnight. Additional advisories could be issued if precipitation redevelops.
