Green Bay, WI – Drivers across northern Wisconsin are waking up to dense fog this morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises conditions will gradually improve after sunrise, with fog expected to fully clear by 10 a.m.
According to the NWS Green Bay office, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday for Florence, Forest, Oneida, and Vilas counties. Forecasters warn that patchy dense fog could make travel hazardous, particularly on rural roads and highways.
The advisory states that visibility may be reduced to between a quarter and half a mile at times, creating dangerous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.
“Conditions can vary greatly over short distances,” forecasters said, urging drivers to remain alert for sudden changes in visibility.
Fog formation is common during early September mornings in Wisconsin, especially in low-lying areas near lakes and rivers. The NWS expects lingering fog to dissipate completely by mid-morning, with improving visibility throughout the day.
Travelers heading through Florence, Forest, Oneida, and Vilas counties this morning should plan for additional drive time and exercise caution until conditions improve.
