Green Bay, WI – Snow and a potential mix of ice will move into northern Wisconsin late Tuesday afternoon, creating slippery roads and hazardous travel through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Vilas, Oneida, Forest and Florence counties. The storm could bring 5 to 8 inches of snow across the region, with a brief mix of freezing rain or sleet possible early in the event.

Communities including Rhinelander, Eagle River, Lac du Flambeau, Crandon and Aurora may see rapidly deteriorating travel conditions during the evening commute as snow begins falling across the Northwoods.

The heaviest snowfall is expected across Vilas County and northern parts of Forest and Florence counties, where road conditions could become snow-covered quickly. Areas south of Rhinelander and Crandon may see slightly lower totals but still face slippery travel.

A light glaze of ice is also possible Tuesday evening before the storm transitions mainly to snow overnight.

Drivers across northern Wisconsin should plan for reduced visibility and snow-covered roads through the night and into the Wednesday morning commute. Road conditions can be monitored by dialing 511 for the latest travel updates across the state.
