Hurley, WI – Lake effect snow is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across Iron County beginning Monday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday, with snowfall totals between 2 and 5 inches likely. Areas impacted include Hurley and the Tribal Lands of the northwestern area of the Lac du Flambeau Band.
Forecasters warn that slippery roads and reduced visibility will affect overnight travel and the Tuesday morning commute. Snowfall is expected to increase in intensity overnight, tapering off by mid-morning Tuesday.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check local road conditions by calling 511 or visiting 511wi.gov. Plows are expected to operate through the night, but blowing snow may still limit visibility, especially in open areas.
This system follows a relatively mild early April, marking a shift to more typical late-season snowfall. Residents in higher elevation zones near Lake Superior should prepare for slightly heavier accumulation.
Additional snow-related delays or impacts on schools and businesses will depend on overnight accumulation and wind conditions Tuesday morning. Updates will be issued as needed.
