Marquette, MI – A late-season snowstorm is expected to bring hazardous travel conditions across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula beginning Monday night and continuing through Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Baraga and Marquette counties from 8 p.m. Monday until 2 p.m. Tuesday. Snow totals could reach up to 8 inches in Baraga County and northern parts of Marquette County away from Lake Superior. Areas south of US-41 and east of M-95 are likely to see 3 inches or less.
Strong winds will accompany the snowfall, with gusts up to 40 mph, potentially creating patchy blowing snow and low visibility during peak commute hours.
Additional advisories are active across the U.P., including in Keweenaw, Gogebic, Houghton, Ontonagon, Alger, Luce, and Schoolcraft counties. Northern communities such as Ironwood, Houghton, and Munising can expect between 2 and 5 inches of snow with gusts reaching 45 mph in some areas.
Motorists are urged to use caution, especially during Tuesday’s morning and evening commutes, as roads may become slick. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for downed branches due to gusty winds.
Drivers are advised to monitor local alerts and slow down while traveling during advisory hours.
