Annandale, VA – Northern Virginia residents should prepare for freezing conditions and the potential for snow this weekend. A strong cold front is bringing bitterly cold temperatures and gusty winds, making outdoor activities challenging.
According to the National Weather Service, today will see highs near 35 degrees, with a chance of flurries after 1 p.m. Winds could gust up to 33 mph, creating a wind chill that feels significantly colder. Overnight lows will plummet to the teens inland and near 20 along the coast.
Sunday will feature sunny skies but remain frigid, with daytime highs struggling to reach 30 degrees. Winds will calm by Sunday night, but temperatures will drop to a bone-chilling 14 degrees.
Looking ahead, Monday brings slightly milder conditions, with highs near 35 degrees. However, by Tuesday, a chance of snow enters the forecast, with highs reaching 43 degrees before dropping to 30 overnight. While the snow chance remains at 30%, it could affect holiday travel plans along I-95.
For Christmas Day on Wednesday, expect partly sunny skies and a high near 42 degrees—ideal for holiday celebrations.
Residents should bundle up and take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia during the overnight hours. Keep pipes insulated and ensure pets are brought indoors. Travelers should monitor road conditions closely, especially Tuesday, as snowfall could create slick conditions.
