Buffalo, NY – Residents in Buffalo and nearby counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory today, with lake-effect snow and frigid temperatures expected to create hazardous conditions. Drivers are warned to anticipate icy roadways and low visibility, especially along routes near Lake Erie, including I-190.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo, several inches of lake-effect snow could accumulate through tonight, with high temperatures barely reaching 21°F. Winds up to 13 mph will make it feel even colder, with wind chills dipping into single digits.
Snow showers are expected to taper off tonight, but scattered flurries may linger into Sunday morning. Sunday will bring partly sunny skies but continued cold, with a high near 19°F.
Looking ahead, temperatures will gradually warm into the mid-30s by Christmas Day, but additional snow is forecast Monday night into Tuesday. Travelers planning holiday trips should monitor weather updates closely as conditions could worsen, especially on highways leading in and out of the city.
The NWS advises residents to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and prepare for potential travel delays. Be sure to check on vulnerable neighbors and stay informed through weather alerts.
