Cleveland, Ohio – Strong southwest winds are expected to impact much of northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania on Friday, Jan. 9, as multiple Wind Advisories remain in effect through the day and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Friday, Jan. 9, for Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, Hancock, Seneca, and Huron counties. Wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected, affecting communities including Toledo, Bowling Green, Sandusky, Fremont, Port Clinton, Findlay, Tiffin, and Norwalk.
Additional Wind Advisories are in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Friday, Jan. 9, for Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina, and Ashtabula counties, including Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, Mentor, Painesville, Chardon, Wadsworth, and Ashtabula.
In northwest Pennsylvania, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST Friday, Jan. 9, for northern and southern Erie County, including Erie, Corry, Edinboro, and Union City. South winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.
The National Weather Service warns that gusty winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, down tree limbs, and lead to isolated power outages. Driving may be difficult at times, especially for high-profile vehicles, particularly along east–west routes and exposed areas near Lake Erie.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and use extra caution while traveling during the Friday daytime and evening hours, Jan. 9, when wind gusts are expected to peak.
