Albuquerque, NM – Showers and storms will move across northern New Mexico’s mountains and nearby highlands on Wednesday, before breezy and hot conditions arrive Thursday. Dry air will dominate much of the state late in the week, bringing above-average temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures on Thursday will rise 5 to 10 degrees above normal, with winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Strong winds will particularly affect western New Mexico, where dry conditions could increase fire danger.
NWS forecasts show a cooling trend expected after Thursday, with storms returning to northern New Mexico by Sunday. Isolated showers may reappear in mountainous regions, increasing moisture levels heading into next week.
Residents in the northern mountains should remain cautious of thunderstorms and cooler evening temperatures before preparing for the hot, dry winds forecasted for Thursday. Precautionary measures should be taken due to the high winds and dry conditions.
