RENO, Nev. – A cluster of small earthquakes shook parts of northern and central Nevada on Tuesday, with the strongest registering a magnitude 3.4 about 56 kilometers northeast of Valmy, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. Two smaller quakes followed near Tonopah, measuring 2.6 and 2.9 in magnitude.

According to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, the Valmy quake struck at 11:45 a.m. local time at a depth of about 8.8 kilometers. Roughly an hour later, sensors detected tremors northeast of Tonopah, occurring just minutes apart and centered about 75 kilometers from town.

No damage or injuries have been reported, though residents in nearby mining areas and along U.S. 50 and U.S. 95 may have felt light shaking. The events are considered minor, but state geologists say this area remains one of Nevada’s most seismically active zones, with frequent low-magnitude quakes linked to regional fault movement.

Experts advise residents to secure heavy furniture and review emergency plans, noting that even small quakes can precede larger ones. The Nevada Seismological Laboratory continues to monitor the region, with additional updates expected if aftershocks persist through the evening.
