Gaylord, MI – Drivers across Northern Michigan should brace for slick roads as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Monday, with light snow and freezing rain expected to make the Monday morning commute hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, counties affected include Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Antrim, Alpena, Montmorency, Otsego, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Charlevoix, Mackinac Island, Bois Blanc Island, and Beaver Island. Ice accumulations are forecasted to remain under a tenth of an inch, with snow totals staying under one inch in most areas.
Officials warn that even minor ice and snow buildup could create slippery travel conditions, especially on untreated roads and bridges. The advisory replaces an earlier Ice Storm Warning, which expired at 11 p.m. Sunday.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed and maintain extra following distance during their morning drive. Road crews may still be clearing or treating surfaces during peak travel hours. Residents are encouraged to check Michigan Department of Transportation updates before heading out.
This late-season weather event adds to a winter that has seen more fluctuating conditions than usual across northern parts of the state.
