Gaylord, MI – A winter storm is set to hit northern Michigan Wednesday, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions through Thursday. Residents should prepare for difficult commutes and possible delays.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord, snow showers will begin Wednesday afternoon, intensifying overnight. Winds up to 10 mph and wind chills as low as -7 degrees will make conditions even more dangerous. By Thursday morning, some areas could see up to five inches of snow, with lake-effect snowfall continuing through Thursday night.

Friday will bring a slight break with cloudy skies and a high of 23 degrees, but snow showers are expected again Friday night into Saturday. Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the week, increasing the risk of icy roads and sidewalks.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution on highways, including I-75 and US-131. Those traveling Wednesday night into Thursday morning should be prepared for reduced visibility and slick conditions.
