Gaylord, Michigan – Northern Michigan residents woke up to frost-covered lawns early Sunday, with temperatures dipping into the 30s before sunrise and a Frost Advisory in effect until 8 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, patchy frost continues through early morning across parts of Emmet, Cheboygan, Otsego, and Alpena counties. As skies clear and winds remain light, ground temperatures dropped below freezing in some rural areas. Motorists should take extra caution on bridges and low-lying roads during early travel.
Sunday afternoon brings a different concern: elevated wildfire risk due to dry vegetation and gusty northwest winds up to 15 mph. Fire officials urge residents to avoid open burning and be cautious with outdoor equipment.
Temperatures will rebound into the 60s Sunday and soar near 78°F on Monday. But by Tuesday afternoon, a new system brings increasing chances for thunderstorms, especially into Tuesday night and Wednesday, with rain chances peaking at 70%. Localized downpours could impact midweek travel along I-75 and US-131 corridors.
No spotter activation is expected at this time, but conditions will be closely monitored. A new round of advisories could follow if storm activity increases.
