Northern Michigan Weather Alert: Tornado and Wind Threat Near Pellston Until Early Afternoon

Gaylord, Michigan – A fast-moving line of severe storms is prompting a Tornado Warning in northern Cheboygan County until 12:15 p.m. Thursday, with radar indicating possible rotation near Mullet Lake.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the storm was located near Mullet Lake at 11:34 a.m., moving east at 45 mph. The system is capable of producing both tornadoes and widespread straight-line wind damage. Areas at immediate risk include Riggsville and surrounding lakeside communities.

Residents near Pellston, Mullett Lake, and along US-31 should take shelter now. The NWS warns that mobile homes may be destroyed, trees could be uprooted, and vehicles or rooftops may suffer serious damage. Flying debris poses a deadly threat to anyone without proper shelter.

If you’re in the warned area, move to a basement or small interior room immediately. Avoid windows. Those in mobile homes or vehicles should find a sturdy structure and stay inside until the warning expires.

This cluster of storms has a history of producing rotation and may continue east into Presque Isle County. Further warnings may follow.
