Gaylord, MI – Light snow and rain are expected to persist across northern Michigan through early Thursday morning, prompting travel caution as temperatures hover in the 30s and 40s.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a light rain and snow mix will continue intermittently today and overnight into early Thursday, with less than an inch of accumulation anticipated. Daytime highs on Friday are projected to range from the low 40s in cities like Alpena and Grayling to the low 50s farther south in Mount Pleasant and Ludington.

Communities across the northern Lower Peninsula, including Traverse City, Cadillac, and Petoskey, should prepare for slippery roads overnight due to lingering precipitation and cooler temperatures. By the weekend, however, a warming trend will bring more seasonable weather. Forecasts indicate highs near 60 degrees by Sunday in several areas.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local road conditions and allow extra travel time, especially during the Thursday morning commute. While no major snow accumulation is expected, reduced visibility and slick surfaces remain a concern.

This weekend’s weather is expected to be mainly dry, offering a welcomed break from the recent chill and setting the stage for spring-like conditions throughout the region.
