Albany, NY – A spring cold snap is gripping eastern New York and parts of western New England, with high temperatures remaining 10 to 15 degrees below normal through at least Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, high pressure moving in from the Ohio Valley and Pennsylvania is clearing out lingering snow showers and flurries. While sunshine will increase throughout Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will remain stuck in the 30s and low 40s across much of the region.

Cities like Albany, Cobleskill, and Herkimer are forecast to reach highs near 41°F, while Newcomb and Old Forge will struggle to rise above the mid-30s. Slightly warmer conditions are expected in Poughkeepsie and Scranton, with temperatures approaching the upper 40s.

Despite the cold, wind speeds are expected to diminish, offering some relief from the blustery conditions seen earlier this week. The combination of sunshine and calmer winds may help improve road conditions, though travelers should remain cautious of icy patches in the early morning hours.

Residents are advised to dress in layers and limit time outdoors. While no additional snowfall is forecast, the below-normal chill could persist into early Thursday. Typical highs for this time of year range from the mid-50s to low 60s across the region.
