Gaylord, MI – A wintry mix of snow and freezing rain is set to impact northern Michigan, including areas along M-32, beginning tonight and extending into Monday. Light snow accumulations, along with the potential for icy conditions, could make travel hazardous into the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow is expected to develop tonight, particularly in the eastern Upper Peninsula, with up to two inches of accumulation in some areas. Rain will mix in for lower regions, creating the risk of ice glazing roads and bridges. By Monday morning, temperatures could dip below freezing, leading to slippery surfaces as refreezing occurs.

Drivers are urged to use caution on roads, especially near M-32 and higher terrain areas where icy conditions are more likely. The weather system will continue through Monday afternoon, with most areas transitioning to rain or drizzle. However, lake effect snow showers are forecast to return late Monday night, with accumulating snowfall possible into Tuesday and Wednesday.

The extended forecast predicts colder air arriving midweek, with highs struggling to reach the mid-30s and lows dipping into the teens by Wednesday night. Snow showers are likely to persist through Thursday, especially in areas prone to lake effect activity.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and allow extra time for travel. Preparations should include clearing ice from windshields and keeping sidewalks safe.
