Caribou, Maine – Overnight frost is expected to settle across northern Maine as temperatures dip into the mid-30s by early Saturday, raising the risk of damage to gardens and outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a frost advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday for Northwest Aroostook and Northern Somerset counties. Communities such as Fort Kent, Allagash, Madawaska, and Clayton Lake could see widespread frost on exposed surfaces.
Residents are urged to cover or bring inside sensitive plants, as even a light frost may be enough to kill tender vegetation. Outdoor gardeners and farmers in the Saint John Valley and Moosehead Lake region should take action before midnight.
Road impacts are not expected, but the cold snap marks one of the first true signs of fall across northern Maine. Residents waking early Saturday will notice frosted lawns and chilly air before temperatures rebound into the 50s by afternoon.
The advisory expires at 8 a.m., but forecasters warn that additional frost events remain possible through the weekend as clear skies and calm winds persist.
