Seattle, WA – Residents of Washington state could witness a rare natural light show as the Northern Lights are expected to be visible Monday night into Tuesday morning. Heightened geomagnetic activity is predicted to push the aurora borealis as far south as Washington.

The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center forecasts the geomagnetic storm index to reach Kp levels of 6-7, increasing the likelihood of aurora visibility. The optimal viewing times are from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Pacific Time, provided the skies remain clear.

The aurora borealis, characterized by its beautiful green, pink, and red lights, results from solar particles colliding with Earth’s magnetic field. Residents are advised to find dark, open spaces away from city lights for the best viewing experience. Monitoring local weather forecasts for cloud cover and using real-time aurora activity trackers can improve the chances of seeing this natural spectacle.
