Northern Indiana — Lake effect snow is expected to impact portions of southwest Michigan tonight into Monday, according to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana.
Forecasters say 3 to 6 inches of lake effect snow is likely across southwest Michigan, with snowfall beginning this evening and continuing through early Monday afternoon. The heaviest snow is expected between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday, when conditions are forecast to be at their worst.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Berrien and Cass Counties from 7 p.m. tonight through 1 p.m. Monday. West winds gusting up to 35 mph on Monday will lead to blowing and drifting snow, significantly reducing visibility and creating dangerous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service warns that very low visibilities are expected, particularly Monday morning. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor forecast updates closely.
In addition to snowfall, very cold conditions are expected Monday and Tuesday, with wind chill values ranging from 10 below zero to 20 below zero across the region. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures could be hazardous.
Residents are advised to use caution if traveling, dress in warm layers, and limit time outdoors when possible.
