Fort Wayne, Indiana – Drivers across northern Indiana and northwest Ohio should prepare for rapidly worsening road conditions Saturday night as a winter storm spreads heavy snow across the region, creating hazardous travel through late Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from Saturday evening through early Monday morning. Snow is expected to develop after sunset and become steady overnight, continuing through Sunday with periods of reduced visibility and snow-covered roads.

Most of the region, including Fort Wayne, Huntington, Wabash, and Van Wert, can expect 7 to 10 inches of snow, with the highest totals most likely east of Interstate 69 and along and south of U.S. 224. Additional areas across Allen, Miami, Jay, Grant, and Blackford counties are forecast to receive between 5 and 8 inches, while De Kalb, Whitley, and Williams counties may see slightly lower totals closer to 5 to 7 inches.

Travel on major routes such as I-69, U.S. 24, U.S. 30, and State Road 3 could become very difficult, especially Saturday night and again Sunday as snowfall accumulates. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and carry emergency supplies if driving is unavoidable.

Snow is expected to taper late Sunday night, but slick roads and lingering impacts may continue into early Monday as crews work to clear highways.
