Wichita, Kansas – Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility continue to impact much of Kansas Saturday morning as a winter storm holds firm across the state, keeping travel conditions hazardous through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for central, south-central, and southeast Kansas through Sunday midday. Additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, pushing storm totals into the 4 to 8 inch range in communities including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, Newton, El Dorado, and Coffeyville. Roads that appeared improved overnight may quickly deteriorate again as snowfall continues.

Farther west and southwest, including Dodge City, Pratt, Hays, and Garden City, the National Weather Service in Dodge City reports lighter additional snowfall of 1 to 3 inches through early Sunday. While totals are lower, cold pavement temperatures will keep highways slick, especially on untreated rural roads.

Travel along I-35, I-135, I-70, U.S. 54, and U.S. 400 remains problematic, with snow-packed lanes and occasional drifting in open areas. Kansas Department of Transportation crews continue plowing operations, but motorists are urged to delay travel if possible and carry emergency supplies if driving is unavoidable.

Snow is expected to taper from west to east Sunday morning, though lingering slick spots may persist into Sunday afternoon. Warnings remain in effect through Sunday, and additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
