South Bend, Indiana – Storm chances ramp up quickly across northern Indiana, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms expected to impact travel and outdoor plans through Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, Monday will stay breezy and mild with highs ranging from 64 to 72°F, but a 20–40% chance of thunderstorms develops mainly along and north of the Indiana Toll Road by late day. These storms are expected to remain scattered but could produce brief downpours and lightning.
The more significant round arrives Tuesday, when storm coverage increases to 50–80% across much of Michiana. Areas along and north of US-30, including South Bend, Elkhart, and Warsaw, are most likely to see repeated storms, especially by the afternoon and evening hours.
Some storms may become strong, producing wind gusts near 60 mph and pockets of heavy rain that could reduce visibility on roadways like I-80/90 and US-31. Brief ponding is possible in low-lying areas and urban streets.
Residents should stay alert for changing conditions and have multiple ways to receive warnings Tuesday. Storm chances continue into Tuesday night, with additional updates expected as timing and intensity become clearer.
