South Bend, IN – Thanksgiving Eve travel could become hazardous across western Michigan and northern Indiana as lake effect snow showers ramp up throughout Wednesday, with up to 6 inches possible near Three Rivers by early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 10 a.m. Wednesday for Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph counties in Michigan, where falling and drifting snow may reduce visibility on untreated roads. Snowfall is expected to intensify through the afternoon and evening as colder air moves in, shifting winds and creating persistent snow bands.

Travelers along I-94 and U.S. 131 should prepare for delays, especially in localized areas receiving the heaviest snow. South Bend, La Porte, and Goshen may see 2–3 inches, with 1–2 inches possible farther south in Fort Wayne and Warsaw. Winds could also cause blowing snow during peak holiday drive times.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution on slick roads, and allow extra time if traveling Wednesday night. Snowfall should taper early Thursday, but another advisory could be issued if bands redevelop.
