Indianapolis, IN – Indiana is preparing for one of its coldest early-December stretches in recent years as an Arctic Blast settles into the Midwest from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, launching the state into a sharp Cold December pattern with snow showers and widespread subzero wind chill potential.

According to the National Weather Service, early-week disturbances will bring light snow and flurries, particularly across northern and central Indiana. Accumulations are expected to stay light, but forecasters caution that freezing temperatures and scattered bursts of snow may create slick roads during the morning and evening commutes.

Temperatures will fall into the teens and single digits statewide, with below-zero readings possible in northern counties. Wind chills may drop well below zero, especially late Monday night through Thursday morning as Arctic air deepens.

The cold pattern is consistent with NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook, which places Indiana firmly in a strong below-normal temperature zone for Dec. 1–5. Persistent northwest flow could support lake-effect snow in far northern Indiana, particularly in the South Bend and Michigan City areas.

While no major winter storm is currently forecast, the combination of dangerous wind chills, patchy snow, and icy travel may affect large portions of the state. Forecasters advise residents to prepare for prolonged cold and to monitor updated weather alerts.
