Fort Wayne, Ind. – Thunderstorms could disrupt Friday evening plans across northern Indiana as a strong cold front moves through, dropping temperatures by as much as 20 degrees overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, scattered showers and storms are expected to develop Friday afternoon, mainly after 2 p.m., with the strongest activity likely between 5 and 9 p.m. The system will usher in cooler, drier air starting late Friday and continuing into the weekend.

Cities including South Bend, Elkhart, and Fort Wayne may see temperatures swing from near 78°F on Friday to overnight lows in the mid-40s. Gusty winds and brief downpours could affect evening commutes and outdoor events. U.S. Route 30 and Interstate 69 may see reduced visibility and slick conditions during peak storm hours.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, check local alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity. While no severe weather is currently expected, isolated lightning and localized ponding on roads remain concerns.

Saturday brings a sharp cooldown, with highs only in the upper 50s to low 60s and partly sunny skies. Sunday warms slightly, returning to the upper 60s with dry weather continuing.

More updates will be issued as Friday’s cold front approaches and storm chances become more defined.
