Indiana drivers are urged to exercise caution as patchy dense fog is affecting roadways throughout northern parts of the state Thursday morning. Visibility is expected to drop to a quarter of a mile or less on key routes, including I-80/90, U.S. 30, and U.S. 20, with conditions improving by 9 a.m. EDT.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana, the fog formed overnight due to clear skies and light winds. The advisory warns travelers to drive slowly, leave extra space between vehicles, and avoid following too closely. For those heading out early or managing school drop-offs, additional time should be allotted to reach your destination safely. The fog could be particularly dangerous around bus stops, with children potentially harder to see in low visibility.

Travelers on major highways such as I-80/90 near South Bend and U.S. 30 around Plymouth and Warsaw are likely to experience the worst conditions. The NWS stresses that visibility could fall below one mile in some areas, with localized spots dropping to under a quarter of a mile.

While fog conditions are expected to clear by mid-morning, the rest of the week in northern Indiana will see varying weather. Friday will bring partly cloudy skies, but rain is expected over the weekend, with temperatures dipping into the low 50s. Early next week, the region could see colder conditions, possibly leading to frost on Monday morning.
