Fort Wayne, IN – Dangerous cold and accumulating snow are forecast for northern Indiana as subzero wind chills and gusty winds persist through this morning. A cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. for areas across northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could dip as low as -25 degrees, creating frostbite risks in under 30 minutes for unprotected skin. Snowfall is also expected, with lake effect bands bringing accumulations to areas along and east of I-69. Motorists should prepare for blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially during the morning commute.

Thursday’s high will reach only 18 degrees, while wind gusts up to 20 mph will make conditions feel significantly colder. A 40% chance of snow is forecast early, tapering off by the afternoon. Friday will bring clearer skies but remain frigid, with highs around 21 degrees.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, dress warmly, and allow extra time for travel. Residents should check on elderly neighbors and ensure pets are protected from the cold. The extended outlook shows a gradual warming trend, with temperatures rising to the low 30s by Saturday.
