Fort Wayne, IN – Winter weather is set to disrupt travel across northern Indiana starting Friday with snow and freezing rain in the forecast. Motorists are urged to prepare for slippery conditions, particularly along I-69 and surrounding roadways.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday morning will bring a chance of rain turning to snow after midday as temperatures drop into the low 30s. Gusty winds of up to 25 mph may create slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during evening commutes. Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary trips as conditions worsen.
Saturday will usher in an arctic air mass, causing temperatures to plummet. By evening, lows are expected to reach single digits, with wind chills dipping below zero. The bitter cold will continue through early next week, with daytime highs struggling to reach the teens.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions against the extreme cold, including bundling up in layers and limiting outdoor exposure. Pet owners should ensure animals have adequate shelter and water.
The extended forecast warns of snow showers and subzero wind chills on Sunday, with a high of 15°F and a low of -5°F. By Monday, temperatures will peak at just 3°F.
