Chicago, Illinois – Periods of rain will return to the Chicago area tonight, with scattered thunderstorms likely by Thursday morning and cooler-than-average temperatures persisting through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a system moving in late Wednesday will bring a 40–60% chance of rain, especially across the southwestern suburbs after midnight. Rain is expected to linger through Thursday, with embedded thunderstorms possible. Thursday’s highs will range from 62–73°F before cooler air moves in.
Rain exits the region by Friday, with only a 20–40% chance of showers east of I-57 by evening. Temperatures will fall into the low 60s Friday afternoon and could dip into the upper 30s overnight near the Wisconsin border.
Cities including Aurora, Joliet, and Kankakee should prepare for damp commutes Thursday morning. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and avoid flood-prone roads during downpours. Outdoor events may be impacted through Friday midday.
Conditions are expected to dry out Saturday and Sunday, with highs ranging from the upper 50s to low 70s depending on proximity to Lake Michigan.
More updates will follow if storm risks increase; residents should monitor alerts through Friday.
