Baltimore, Md. – Thunderstorms, rising humidity, and summerlike heat are set to sweep across Maryland starting Thursday, with Friday shaping up to be the most active weather day of the week.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, a cold front will sink south of I-66 today, bringing scattered rain chances. That front returns north by Thursday as a warm front, ushering in muggy air and pushing high temperatures into the 80s for much of the state. Thunderstorm chances will increase late Thursday into Friday, with the potential for strong storms and heavy rainfall.

By Friday, highs could reach the upper 80s in places like Annapolis, Salisbury, and the D.C. suburbs, while western counties like Garrett and Allegany stay cooler but wetter. Mountain areas may see frequent showers and cooler highs in the 50s and 60s. Roads along I-64 and I-70 could see reduced visibility and ponding water during downpours.

Residents should prepare for fast-changing conditions, charge devices in advance, and monitor local alerts—especially Friday afternoon into evening. Outdoor plans may need adjusting, particularly west of Baltimore where storms may arrive earlier.

A second cold front is expected Saturday, with cooler air and lingering rain possible into Sunday. More alerts could be issued as this system evolves.
